A Mechanical and Engineering Insurance (M&E insurance) policy will cover damage caused to the M&E by inherent defect. It can be used to protect the following systems; 

• Space heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and water
• Heating systems including boilers and calorifiers
• Lifts, escalators, and mobility apparatus
• Lighting and electrical distribution systems
• Building security and environmental control systems
• Electrical and mechanical parts of water pumping, distribution, and waste systems
• Internet-enabled or “smart” systems included in the list

The M & E Insurance covers the costs of repairing, replacing, or rectifying damaged M&E equipment up to a period of 10 years.
